For a high school senior in Bastrop, a scholarship isn’t just a check; it’s the key to a future that once felt out of reach. For a family in crisis, a warm bed and a meal can mean everything.

These moments of hope don’t happen by accident; they are built by a network of community partners working behind the scenes. Roscoe Bank is one of those partners, and this year the bank is expanding that support in a visible way.

As Roscoe Bank marks its 120th anniversary in Texas and 20 years in Bastrop, it has launched a year-long nonprofit nomination campaign. Through December, the bank will donate $1,200 each month to one Bastrop County and one Fisher/Nolan County nonprofit selected through a community raffle.

This year’s winners

Two organizations have already benefited.

The Smithville Education Foundation, which funds teacher grants and enrichment programming for Smithville ISD, was January’s recipient. February’s donation went to the Family Crisis Center, which provides safety, shelter and advocacy for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

In addition to the monthly donation, Roscoe Bank promotes each selected nonprofit through its social media channels, raising awareness about available resources and encouraging broader community involvement.

Executive assistant Meagan Orosco said the goal is to provide an additional resource for nonprofits to grow or to purchase something they need, while also increasing visibility.Smithville Education Foundation with their checkSmithville Education FoundationContinuing a community-first legacy

That community-first approach didn’t start with the anniversary campaign; it’s been part of Roscoe Bank’s identity since the beginning. Over the years, they have supported local education foundations, contributed to the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry, and participated in volunteer efforts and community events.

Orosco said the most rewarding part of that involvement is seeing tangible results.

“We’ve seen two extra scholarship students that were able to get help going to either higher education or to a trade school that wouldn’t have been able to do that without our contribution,” Orosco said. “It’s so rewarding to know that we’re helping someone else succeed in something bigger.”

Ultimately, the $1,200 monthly donation is an extension of a commitment to being more than just a financial institution.

“We want to be the friendly faces you see when you walk in on a Friday to grab a cookie and to make a deposit,” Orosco said. “We want to be the community bank that everybody knows and remembers.”

Whether it’s through a life-changing scholarship or a simple Friday afternoon conversation, Roscoe Bank is marking 120 years the same way it always has: by showing up for the people around it.Roscoe Bank team at food pantryRoscoe Bank team at Bastrop County Emergency Food PantryHow to nominate a nonprofit
