EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Police reveal what led to the crash on I-10 in East El Paso that killed a 15-year-old girl.
According to the El Paso Police Department, a 2022 Ford Mustang was driving fast when it rear-ended the 2017 Ford Escape that Sophia Ramirez and her family were riding in, which included her mother, Desiree Ramirez, a 33-year-old man (who the mother has identified as her fiancé), and two other children, one of them one year old.
The crash happened on I-10 East at Lee Trevino around 11 p.m. Tuesday.
It is unknown if alcohol was a factor or if the driver of the Mustang could face charges.
EPPD said the investigation is still ongoing.

On Thursday, the family confirmed that Sophia had passed away after being brain-dead and on life support since the night of the crash.
Sophia’s mother, Desiree, said the family was driving home from the airport after being away on a work trip.
Police said that because of the crash, Sophia was thrown from the vehicle and severed injuries.
Desiree is asking for people who witnessed the crash to come forward as she suspects that alcohol was a factor.
