DALLAS – The Texas A&M swimming & diving program swept the SMU Mustangs this weekend at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center on the SMU campus.
The men’s squad won 204-146 and the women’s team won 209-140.
Leading the way for the women’s team with victories were Katie Walker, Kaitlyn Owens, Ava Whitaker, Ella McQuinn, and Giulia Goerigk. Walker posted a win in the 500 free in 4:56.61; Owens took first in the 50 free in 22.48; Whitaker won the 100 fly in 53.07; McQuinn touched first in the 200 free in 1:46.95; and Goerigk touched first in the 400 yard IM in 4:18.29.
Securing wins for men’s squad with victories were Batuhan Filiz, Ben Scholl, Logan Brown, Chase Swearingen, Ben Sytsma, and Munzy Kabbara. Filiz touched first in the 500 free in 4:23.38: Scholl took first in 50 free in 19.87; Brown won the 200 breast in 1:54.82; Swearingen touched first in the 100 fly in 46.61; Sytsma took first in the 100 free in 43:87, and Kabbara won the 400yard IM in 3:48.52.
Chipping in runner-up finishes for the women were Macy Lewis , Ella Smoker, and Corbyn Reyes. Lewis took second in the 200 back in 1:56.96; Smoker touched second in the 200 breast in 2:14.46; and Reyes finished second in the 400 yard IM in 4:24.80.
Grabbing second place wins for the men’s squad were Ben Sytsma, Roberto Bonilla Flores, John Simmons, and Daniil Pancerevas. Sytsma touched second in the 50 free in 19.97; Bonilla Flores took second in the 200 breast in 1:55.79; Simmons touched second in the 100 fly in 47.10; and Pancerevas took second in the 200 free in 1:37.10.
The Aggies opened the meet with a pair of victories in the 200 medley relay with the women’s foursome of Kaitlyn Owens, Victoria Taylor, Ava Whitaker, and Ella McQuinn touching in 1:37.95 and the men’s quartet of Jack Madoch, logan Brown, Chase Swearingen, and Ben Scholl finishing in 1:25.80. The Maroon & White closed out the meet with the women securing a victory in the 400 free relay (McQuinn, Owens, Reagan Sherrard, and Eloise Williamson) finishing in 3:17.42 and the men finishing second in the 400 free relay (Sytsma, Brown, Alejandro Michelena, and Pancerevas) touching in 2:55.17.
The Aggie divers swept the top four spots in the women’s 1-meter springboard with Joslyn Oakley grabbing the win with a score of 267.60, followed by Bridget Foster (263.03), Gabrielle Filzen (253.35), and Julie Moons (253.28). The men finished second and third with Jaxon Bowshire (339.15) and Emilio Trevino (317.85).
