AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety graduated 122 new Texas Highway Patrol troopers during a ceremony on Friday in Austin.

The graduates were part of the agency’s 180th training class, known as Class C-2025. Officials said more than 1,600 people applied, with 136 accepted into a 30-week training academy that began in August. DPS said 1,685 people applied, 136 recruits started the academy in August 2025, and 122 completed all requirements to graduate.

The class includes 99 men and 23 women, with ages ranging from 21 to 51. DPS said 33 graduates are military veterans and 68 speak more than one language.

Houston Police Chief J. Noe Diaz, a former DPS trooper and member of Recruit Class A-1996, delivered the keynote address. “I’ve walked the road you’re about to take,” Diaz said. “The miles will be long, but the honor of serving Texas will make every one of them worth it.”

DPS Director Col. Freeman F. Martin praised the class, calling them “the most skilled, best prepared” recruits the department has produced. DPS leaders and members of the Public Safety Commission attended the ceremony.

During the academy, recruits completed more than 1,200 hours of training in areas including criminal law, crash investigation, crisis response, and emergency medical care. The program also included a final field training exercise designed to simulate real-world patrol scenarios.

Earlier in the week, the class participated in the department’s traditional Legacy Run from DPS headquarters to the Texas State Capitol, symbolizing the completion of their training.

DPS said the newly commissioned troopers will report to their duty stations across the state beginning April 12, where they will patrol highways and assist communities statewide.
