Texas A&M has a tall task ahead as it prepares to face the No. 2 seed Houston Cougars on Saturday evening in the Round of 32.
The Aggies earned their spot with a commanding 63–50 upset over Saint Mary’s, never trailing at any point. It marked the program’s third straight trip to the second round and the first NCAA Tournament win of the Bucky McMillan era. True to their identity, the Aggies won with patented “Bucky Ball”—forcing 18 turnovers, pushing tempo, and knocking down timely threes.
Houston, meanwhile, cruised past No. 15 seed Idaho in a 78–47 rout, holding the Vandals to just 29% shooting and dominating the glass 47–32. The Cougars entered as heavy favorites and played like it, treating the opening round more like a tune‑up than a test.
For Texas A&M, the stakes are clear. A win would send the Aggies to their first Sweet 16 since 2018, when they ultimately fell to Michigan. Houston enters with its own postseason pedigree, coming off a national runner‑up finish last season. Saturday’s matchup also serves as a rematch of the 2024 Round of 32 meeting—a 100–95 OT shootout won by the Cougars.
