SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A second person is dead after a crash on the Northwest Side that is believed to have been caused by racing.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, Raul Gallegos, 20, was racing a truck while driving a sedan near the intersection of North Elmendorf Street and Culebra Tuesday night. At one point, investigators say Gallegos lost control and slammed into another car.
A 12-year-old passenger, Jonathan Rivera, was riding with Gallegos, and he was later identified as his nephew. After initial reports the child was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, KSAT-12 reports Rivera died at the scene.
Gallegos was taken to the hospital as well, but it is now reported that he died as well.
A woman driving a car that was hit by Gallegos’ vehicle was also taken to the hospital, but her status is unknown.
The truck involved in the race kept going after the crash and has not been found.
