If you heard a big “boom” or thought you saw a shooting star around 3-4pm, today, that quick flash in the sky wasn’t small at all—it was a 3-foot space rock, about a ton, burning up as it tore through Earth’s atmosphere. Crazy to think about.

NASA says it was moving close to 35,000 mph, first visible high above Stagecoach before breaking apart over the Cypress area.

When it came apart, it released energy comparable to 26 tons of TNT— enough to create the boom people heard across parts of Houston.
