The Texas A&M Forest Service outlines “very high” fire danger for parts of Central Texas.
AUSTIN, Texas — The KVUE Weather Team has issued a Weather Impact Alert for Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. due to elevated fire danger across Central Texas.
Very hot, dry and breezy conditions will combine with ongoing drought and dry vegetation to create an increased wildfire threat today. High temperatures will climb into the low to mid 90s, including a forecast high of 93 degrees in Austin. While that would stay just shy of the daily record, it will still be an unusually hot day for March.

The latest outlook from the Texas A&M Forest Service shows “very high” to “extreme” fire danger across most of Central Texas, with the greatest concern focused on parts of the Austin metro and the Hill Country.Â
Because of this, it is a good idea to avoid any outdoor burning today and use extra caution with anything that could spark a fire.

Looking ahead to the start of the upcoming week, the fire threat should ease somewhat as temperatures come down a bit and humidity edges slightly higher on Monday and Tuesday. Even so, the overall pattern remains very dry, with no meaningful rain expected in the Austin area over the next seven days.
The KVUE Weather Team will continue to monitor the forecast closely. In the meantime, you can find the extended forecast below.
