HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Police said a man was rushed to the hospital after he was shot in the stomach following a fender bender in southwest Houston overnight.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to a shooting call on Saturday just before midnight in the 8000 block of South Braeswood Boulevard. Officers said they found the man with gunshot wounds to his stomach.

Investigators said the original shooting took place in the 10,000 block of South Gessner Road. According to authorities, the victim and suspect were involved in a small fender bender before then exchanging words. Shortly after, the suspect exited his vehicle with a firearm and shot the victim.

Officials said that the Houston Fire Department also responded and took the victim to a nearby hospital. Police said the victim is in critical condition.

Authorities said when officers arrived at the scene, they collected information on the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle, and with the help of Flock cameras, they determined the suspect was still in the area.

Officers said they made a felony traffic stop on the suspect’s vehicle and detained two people along with a firearm.

According to officials, HPD’s Major Assaults Division is investigating the incident.
