Texas vs. Oregon: Live updates, highlights

4th (7:29): Texas 82, Oregon 45

All that’s left at Moody Center is the sendoff for fifth-year senior Rori Harmon, who has remained on the bench since the 1:32 mark of the third quarter. The Longhorns’ all-time leader in assists and steals has nine points, six assists and five steals in her final home game.

With 9:39 left in the fourth quarter, Madison Booker’s two free throws set a new scoring record for the Longhorns in the NCAA Tournament. Booker currently has 36 points.

End 3: Texas 73, Oregon 42

With Madison Booker making history, Texas is steamrolling into the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament. A 3-point in the third quarter’s final minute gave Booker 32 points for the night. That ties the school’s scoring record for the NCAA Tournament, which was set by Clarissa Davis during the Longhorns’ title run in 1986 and matched by Heather Schreiber as Texas secured a Final Four spot against LSU in 2003.

The 32 points is also a career-high total for Booker, who had never before had a 30-point game before her 31-point performance in the SEC Tournament against Ole Miss on March 7. Booker has made 12 of her 18 shots tonight.

3rd (4:30): Texas 60, Oregon 39

After Rori Harmon drew an offensive foul and triggered a media timeout, Texas coach Vic Schaefer walked on to the court and waved his arms to pump up an already-energized crowd at Moody Center. That charge was the 11th turnover of the game for Oregon, which hadn’t yet given away the basketball in the second half.

Texas has outscored the Ducks by a 15-5 margin in the second half. Madison Booker and Jordan Lee, who sat out much of the first half with foul trouble, have both matched Oregon’s offensive production in the third quarter.

Halftime: Texas 45, Oregon 34

With Madison Booker scoring 19 points and Teya Sidberry adding nine, Texas is in control at today’s halftime break. As a team, Texas shot 51.4% from the field in the first half and forced 10 defensive turnovers.

After making seven of her 11 shots during the opening two quarters, Booker is over halfway to the Longhorns’ NCAA Tournament scoring record. Clarissa Davis scored 32 points against Western Kentucky in 1986 while Heather Schreiber matched that effort against LSU in 2003.

Even during the short time that Booker was on the bench in the first half, Texas was able to outscore Oregon by an 8-2 margin. While Booker was on the bench, Aaliyah Crump assisted senior point guard Rori Harmon on a 3-pointer and Harmon later did the same with her freshman teammate.

2nd (5:00): Texas 36, Oregon 27

Texas junior forward Madison Booker has accounted for half of the Longhorns’ points so far while making seven of her 10 shots. Oregon sophomore guard Katie Fiso has 11 points so far.

Booker entered today averaging a team-high 18.7 points per game. Fiso is Oregon’s leading scorer at 15.5 points per game.

2nd (6:38): Texas 36, Oregon 25

After missing the NCAA Tournament the past two seasons while playing at Boston College, Teya Sidberry is making up for lost time tonight. The senior forward has scored nine points off the bench for the Longhorns today. Her latest basket – a transition lay-up off an Oregon turnover – forced the Ducks to call a timeout.

Sidberry made three brief appearances for Utah during the 2023 NCAA Tournament. In UT’s NCAA opener against Missouri State on Friday, she scored six points while playing nine minutes.

End 1: Texas 28, Oregon 21

Behind a good start from All-American forward Madison Booker, Texas has seized an early lead at Moody Center. Over today’s first 10 minutes, Booker scored 14 points while knocking down six of her eight shots. Booker also had two rebounds, one steal and an assist of a Teya Sidberry 3-pointer.

Oregon was led in the first quarter by sophomore guard Katie Fiso’s seven points.

One subplot to watch going forward is sophomore guard Jordan Lee’s foul troubles. Lee, who is UT’s second-leading scorer and one of the team’s top defenders, was replaced by freshman teammate Aaliyah Crump after picking up her second foul with 1:51 left in the first frame.

1st (4:21): Texas 14, Oregon 13

After Vic Schaefer declined to take his suit jacket off during the entirety of the SEC Tournament or during the Longhorns’ NCAA opener, the Texas coach lasted 90 seconds today. In addition to being upset with a few early calls from this game’s referees, Schaefer also gave UT forward Justice Carlton an early hook.

Thanks to two 3-pointers, Oregon has led by as many as five points. But Texas has responded with eight points from All-American forward Madison Booker, and the Longhorns just regained the lead on an acrobatic basket by Rori Harmon. A fifth-year senior who is playing her last game at Moody Center, Harmon was fouled on the play and will shoot one free throw after this media timeout.
