Lubbock sets new daily record high of 96 degrees

  • March 23, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Another day of record heat for some communities on the South Plains including Lubbock.

Lubbock recorded a new record high of 96 degrees. The previous record for March 22 was 90 degrees; that occurred in 2018.

However, there is relief on the way as a cold front continues to push cooler, then colder air across the area overnight.

The latest cold front will start our week off afternoon temperatures in the 60s to low 70s. It may feel cool enough for a light jacket in the northern communities on Monday morning. Cooler temperatures will cover all of the region on Monday.

However, along and ahead of the cold front today there were some communities that hit the century mark.

Winds will be gusty into the evening hours but will be lighter by Monday morning.

The Monday cooldown will be a short one as 80s will return on Tuesday. That will be followed by 90s on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
