Gregory-Portland has gone 8-2 against Corpus Christi Moody recently and they’ll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Wildcats will face off against the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Gregory-Portland’s pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on King with a sharp 12-0 win. With that victory, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Emily LaFavers made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn’t given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emily Cameron, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Aubree Jones also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Gregory-Portland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Corpus Christi Moody). They were the clear victors by a 22-2 margin over Alice on Tuesday. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
Anabelle Flores was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lovieann Vasquez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double.
The win got Corpus Christi Moody back to even at 5-5-2. As for Gregory-Portland, their victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 10-14-2.
Gregory-Portland couldn’t quite finish off Corpus Christi Moody when the teams last played back in February and fell 4-2. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We’ll find out soon enough.
