The regular season for Major League Baseball gets rolling later this week.
There are a lot of new faces on the roster for the Texas Rangers this season, but San Antonio’s own Josh Jung is back for another year.
The All-Star third baseman has had his run of tough luck with injuries in his career.
A broken thumb in 2023. A fractured wrist in 2024.
During Spring Training, Jung was sideline for a little more than a week with a straied groin.
But Now he’s ready to roll for the regular season.
You get hindered on a couple things depending on the injury,” said Jung. “But other than that, you keep everything else dialed in. So when it’s time, you’re ready to go. [My] swing feels great. So now it’s just get back in games and get in baseball shape.”
The Rangers are looking to bounce back this year.
They lost 11 of their last 13 ballgames last season missing the playoffs for teh second straight year.
“I think the last couple years have left the sour taste in our mouth,” said Jung. “And I think everyone is kind of on the same page of just getting back on track. I don’t think any of us liked how last year went, and I think we’ve all come in pretty hungry, And honestly, just can’t wait to be going.”
There’s a new manager in the dugout for Texas this season. Jung says Skip Schumaker has breathed some new life into the clubhouse.
“He just brings that extra edge,” said Jung. “And I think everybody feels it for the most part. And I mean, camp’s been awesome. Everyone’s been working their butt off. We’ve been playing well. So you just gotta take that over the season.”
Josh is laser-focused on helping the Rangers get back to the postseason. But he’s also een keeping an eye on a team he roosted for growing up.
“I always check in and see how they’re doing,” said Jung. “I know they were up there with OKC for a while. I’m sure they’re still there, I think they’ll make a good run. OKC is really good, so that might be a tough one to top, but I think they’ll make a deep run.”
