On Sunday night, one of the NCAA Tournament’s top second round matchups is set to take place from Tampa when the Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas Tech Red Raiders meet with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line.

The Crimson Tide and Red Raiders both cruised to victories during the first round, with each winning their game by 20 points. Alabama defeated Hofstra on Friday afternoon, while Texas Tech toppled Akron.

Two programs who are familiar with the big stage in March Madness, Alabama and Texas Tech are led by two of the premier coaches in the SEC and Big 12, Nate Oats and Grant McCasland. Alabama and Texas Tech also have some premier talent at the guard position in particular with Labaron Philon and Christian Anderson, making this a must-see matchup in the second round.

The Crimson Tide’s lead is now 32 with a little over three minutes remaining. Alabama will be moving on to Chicago for a Sweet 16 matchup against Michigan.

Alabama closing in on victory – Alabama 85, Texas Tech 56 (5:09 2H)

Alabama is a little over five minutes away from a return trip to the Sweet 16. The Crimson Tide’s lead sits at 29, and are dominating in almost every statistical category, most evidently three-point shooting and rebounding. Alabama also owns a notable 23-8 edge in assists.

Houston Mallette leads Alabama run – Alabama 77, Texas Tech 49 (7:47 2H)

Alabama’s lead is now approaching 30 following a recent run headlined by three’s made from Houston Mallette and Noah Williamson. The duo now has a combined 23 points on 7-of-9 shooting from three off Alabama’s bench. The Crimson Tide also continue to impress defensively, and are closing in on a return trip to the Sweet 16.

Alabama lead under 20 – Alabama 63, Texas Tech 45 (11:55 2H)

The Crimson Tide continue to keep their foot on the gas pedal offensively, but are now leading by only 18 following a recent run from Texas Tech, who currently owns a 20-14 scoring edge in the second half. LeJuan Watts leads Texas Tech with 12 points.

Alabama maintaining 20+ point lead – Alabama 58, Texas Tech 35 (15:32 2H)

While the Red Raiders have begun to heat up a bit offensively to start the second half, Alabama is answering those makes to maintain their 20+ point lead. The Crimson Tide are currently 14-of-33 (42%) from three, led by Latrell Wrightsell with 15 points on four made shots from deep.

The second half is underway in Tampa.

HALF – Alabama 49, Texas Tech 25

Alabama closes the first half on a three-point barrage to carry a commanding 49-25 lead into halftime. The Crimson Tide shot a combined 11-of-27 (41%) from three-point range during the first half, and owned a 30-16 edge on the boards while Alabama’s defense was also stout during a vast majority of the first half. Aiden Sherrell leads Alabama with 10 points, while both Latrell Wrightsell and Houston Mallette have nine each.

Crimson Tide lead approaching 20 – Alabama 37, Texas Tech 19 (3:58 1H)

Alabama’s first half lead is approaching 20 points with under four minutes remaining until halftime. The Crimson Tide’s edge on the glass now sits at 26-13, as well as 12-5 on the offensive boards. Latrell Wrightsell leads the Crimson Tide with nine points, while both Labaron Philon and Aiden Sherrell have seven each.

Alabama continues to own a double-digit lead as we approach the five-minute mark remaining in the first half. The Crimson Tide still own the advantage in a majority of statistical categories, headlined by rebounding.

The Crimson Tide’s first half lead sits at 15 with a little under eight minutes remaining in the half. Alabama currently owns a 24-8 edge on the glass over the Red Raiders, as well as a 12-3 edge in offensive rebounds.

Labaron Philon, Latrell Wrightsell three’s extend lead – Alabama 26, Texas Tech 10 (10:30 1H)

Alabama’s run has continued following a pair of made three-pointers from Latrell Wrightsell Jr. and Labaron Philon, bringing the Crimson Tide’s lead to 16. The Crimson Tide are shooting 6-of-12 (50%) from three, and Philon is up to a team-high seven points, along with five rebounds and three assists.

Alabama run extends lead – Alabama 20, Texas Tech 9 (11:50 1H)

Alabama has extended their lead to double digits following a 10-2 run. The Crimson Tide defense is making a key impact early on, limiting Texas Tech to only 27% shooting from the field. Alabama also owns a 13-7 edge on the glass.
