1. AG Paxton continues to push against North Texas Muslim-centric community development

As he prepares for a May runoff election, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is continuing efforts to block a proposed Muslim-centered community in North Texas, urging local officials not to approve development permits tied to the project formerly known as “EPIC City.”

Paxton recently sent a letter to Collin County officials asking them to reject any applications connected to the development, which has drawn scrutiny and political attention for more than two years.

2. Hundreds of volunteers assist in Hunt 8 months after July 4 floods

There’s still a lot of work to be done to rebuild Kerr County after the deadly July 4 floods. But thankfully, many hands make light work.

3. Austin ISD shows progress in narrowing achievement gaps

Achievement gaps at Austin Independent School District are narrowing. The district is projecting eight of its schools will drop their “F” ratings for the 2026 testing year based on reports from a mid-year test for elementary students. Austin ISD is attributing this success to some changes that have been made in recent years regarding instructional material and professional training.

Most of Austin ISD’s 79 elementary schools transitioned into using the same curriculum for both reading and math last school year. This was done to have more standardized material for every student across the district, no matter which school they attend.
