EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Two of the most recognizable World War II bombers still flying today are returning to the El Paso region this spring, giving the public a rare chance to tour the aircraft and even book a flight aboard them.
The War Eagles Air Museum in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, will host the Flying Legends of Victory Tour from April 23-26, bringing the B-17 Flying Fortress and B-25 Mitchell back to the area for the first time in nearly three years.
The tour is operated by the Commemorative Air Force, an organization dedicated to preserving military aviation history.
Visitors will be able to explore the aircraft up close through ground tours, and a limited number of ride flights will be available.
This exhibit offers a hands-on, educational experience that brings history to life,” said Vanessa Martinez, executive director of the War Eagles Air Museum. “To hear these engines, step inside these aircraft and experience flight as it was decades ago is something few people will ever have the chance to do.
Ride flights are scheduled Friday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Prices vary by aircraft and seating option. On the B-17, a waist seat costs $475 and a bombardier/navigator seat costs $850. On the B-25, the radio compartment costs $375 and a jump seat costs $590.
Ground tours are scheduled on Thursday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday through Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Ground tours include museum admission.
The museum said seats for ride flights are extremely limited and expected to sell out quickly. The tour is described as one of the few opportunities in 2026 for the borderland community to experience the historic aircraft without traveling out of state.
The War Eagles Air Museum is located at 8012 Airport Road in Santa Teresa, New Mexico.
