AUSTIN, Texas — Several people were evacuated early Tuesday after an apartment fire near the University of Texas at Austin campus.

Responders said the fire sparked at around 2:45 a.m. at The Mark Austin apartment complex, located at 812 W. 23rd St.

Once on scene, crews said the fire was located on the eighth floor electrical room and that it took some time to locate. Sprinklers turned on in the building, resulting in water and smoke damage to the complex.

The Austin Fire Department (AFD) was able to put the fire out and cleanup efforts are now underway.

It’s unclear when residents will be able to return to the apartments.
