The city of Tyler is launching a historic resources survey focused on the Texas College area.

Survey teams will photograph buildings and document neighborhood characteristics from public rights-of-way, so no one will be entering private property.

The effort will identify historically significant properties and help support future landmark designations, but the city says no properties will be automatically designated.

“For any property to be designated as a landmark, it will have to be made by the property owner, and so this effort will not designate any properties as landmarks or add any restrictions. It is mainly just to identify information or data that will help support any future efforts,” said City of Tyler Planning Director Kyle Kingma.

Fieldwork will take place during multiple week-long visits throughout 2026. A final report is expected by September 2027.
