Ascend Dallas is helping North Texans navigate the tax return process by hosting a free virtual Tax Credit Education class on March 31 at 6:30 p.m.

The session is open to the public and helps individuals identify tax credits that could put more money back in their pockets.

The IRS estimates that 1 in 5 eligible taxpayers miss out on the Earned Income Tax Credit each year, leaving thousands of dollars unclaimed.

“In North Texas, those most likely to leave money on the table include single parents, individuals working part-time, and people who didn’t file taxes last year,” Ascend Dallas CEO Kate Rose Marquez said.

Marquez said many North Texans may be missing refunds ranging from $1,500 to $8,000 simply because they do not realize they qualify for valuable tax credits.

The online class will be offered in English and Spanish.

The nonprofit’s mission is to empower women, fight poverty, and impact generations through a tailored suite of confidence- and skill-building services.
