TCU has appointed a new dean to lead the university’s nursing and health science programs.
Bernard Rousseau has more than 20 years of leadership experience at three R1 institutions — Vanderbilt University, the University of Pittsburgh and most recently, Saint Louis University.
TCU’s Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences has more than 2,000 students enrolled and dates back to 1946. Areas of study include applied health sciences, communication sciences and disorders, kinesiology, nursing, nurse anesthesia, occupational therapy, social work and the future area of study, physician associate studies.
The university describes Rousseau as a proven leader in increasing research expenditures, recruiting faculty, improving rankings, exceeding student retention rates and securing gifts and pledges.
His most recent leadership position was as dean of the Edward and Margaret Doisy College of Health Sciences at Saint Louis University, one of the largest colleges at the university. He is a professor of speech, language and hearing sciences.
“Dr. Rousseau possesses an insightful understanding of academic leadership and a strong commitment to student success,” said Floyd L. Wormley Jr., provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, in a statement. “He is dedicated to collaboration, strategic direction, excellence in teaching and learning and supporting faculty and staff. These distinguishing skills will help Harris College achieve exceptional levels of teaching, learning, scholarship, research and discovery.” Rousseau said he aims to make Harris College a “national leader in health sciences education and student success and retention.”
“We will deliver a world-class integrated approach to health sciences education with unparalleled access to interprofessional research training experiences, enhanced clinical opportunities through partnerships with health care organizations, expanded community impact through health care initiatives and talent development to address national workforce shortages. I look forward to joining the TCU community to lead the Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences and support its faculty, staff, learners and alumni,” Rousseau said in a statement.
