Dallas ISD District 2 Monthly Update

Spring is blooming across District 2 and I’m looking forward to seeing our Legacy schools showcased next month at the More Choice Expo on April 11 at the Automobile Building in Fair Park.

The expo connects families with information, opportunities, and options that support student success. There will also be a chance to complete enrollment on site for the next school year. With nearly 200 campuses participating, families will learn about programs grounded in academic excellence, innovation, and tradition. For more information, click here.

I also want to remind families that enrollment for prekindergarten begins April 1. For more information, please visit the district’s pre-K page. Together, these opportunities ensure families have the access, resources, and information they need to make confident decisions about their child’s education.

Beyond enrollment and school choice, there are several other bright spots across District 2 worth celebrating this month. Henry W. Longfellow Career Exploration Academy, which is ranked among the Top 10 middle schools in Texas, will hold a building dedication at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, at 7600 Inwood Road. It is an exciting milestone for a campus that continues to set a high standard for student achievement.

Career Institute North and Geneva Heights Elementary School have been named to the 2025–2026 Caudill Class, the highest honor in the annual Exhibit of School Architecture. The recognition highlights the career pathways created at Career Institute North.

Dallas ISD Bond 2026

Dallas ISD trustees voted unanimously to give voters the opportunity to vote this May on a bond package for just over $6.2 billion that would result in a $0.01 tax rate increase, which translates to about $33 annually for homes valued at $500,000 and no tax increase if the homeowner is 65 years of age or older. Despite the increase, Dallas ISD will still have one of the lowest Interest & Sinking (I&S) tax rates in Dallas County and the North Texas area.

Teacher retention

Dallas ISD’s focused efforts to improve teacher morale, compensation, and experience continue to deliver results. The district has outperformed the region and state in teacher retention. This year, more than 90% of teachers rated Proficient or higher remained in Dallas ISD, supporting greater stability and quality in our classrooms.

Finally, I remain grateful for the dedication of our students, educators, families, and community partners who continue to make District 2 strong. This is an important time of year as we focus on growth, progress, and preparing our students for a successful finish to the school year.

As always, please reach out to me if you have thoughts, ideas, questions, concerns, or just to say hello.

Best,

Sarah Weinberg
