NATALIA, Texas – A local school district has selected its lone finalist to potentially lead the district.
Natalia Independent School District trustees have selected a familiar face to lead the district, naming Dr. Elmer Avellaneda the lone finalist for superintendent following the board’s meeting on Monday, March 23, 2026.
Avellaneda currently serves as Natalia ISD’s assistant superintendent of finance and business services, where he oversees the district’s financial operations, bond construction, and business services.
The district said he has also led initiatives in safety, security, technology, maintenance, human resources, and district operations, while supporting school leadership development and district priorities.
Avellaneda began his career in education in 2010 and has served at every level of school leadership, according to the district. He holds a Bachelor of Education from Baylor University and both a Master of Education and a Doctor of Education from Tarleton State University.
“Natalia ISD is excited about the leadership, vision, and experience Dr. Avellaneda brings to our district,” Board President Eric Smith said. “We are confident he will continue to advance our mission of student success and community engagement.”
As the lone finalist, Avellaneda will proceed through the state-required 21-day timeline before a final appointment as superintendent.
