The City of Austin is considering safety and mobility improvements to Mesa Dr. between Spicewood Springs Rd. and Far West Blvd. Residents can provide feedback through a survey through April 8.

The city’s Transportation and Public Works department reminded residents about the project in a Tuesday morning social media post. The survey opened on March 19 and closes on April 8.

Routine pavement maintenance scheduled for the summer provides the city with an opportunity to make cost-effective changes that improve safety and make the street work better for everyone who uses it. That includes pedestrians, bicyclists, drivers, and transit users, as well as homeowners and businesses.

In addition to community feedback, staff will consider neighborhood access, emergency response, and overall traffic operations when developing the design options.

On Wednesday evening, project staff will be available at the NWACA Annual Neighborhood Meeting to share information with residents. Staff will take that input and potential design options may be shared for additional public input later this spring.

Mesa Dr. is a major north-south street in Northwest Austin that connects Jollyville Road to FM 2222. The area slated for maintenance is mostly residential, with some businesses located near Spicewood Springs Rd.

The city’s Speed Management Program reviews hundreds of streets every year to determine which locations have higher levels of speeding and crash risk. Last year, this stretch of Mesa Dr. ranked 12 out of 878 streets evaluated citywide.
