The Cougars take on Illinois in the Sweet 16 at the Toyota Center in Houston on Thursday.
HOUSTON — The No. 2-seeded University of Houston Cougars are headed to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament’s South Regional in Houston, and ticket prices don’t come cheap.
In fact, fans will have to pay more to see the Sweet 16 matchup against No. 3 seed Illinois than they did to see the Coogs play in San Antonio the Final Four in last year’s tournament.
Tickets for last year’s Final Four game at the Alamodome went for about $275 on the low side. For Thursday’s Sweet 16 game at the Toyota Center, the cheapest tickets available as of Wednesday are going for about $470.
And those tickets won’t be easy to come by. University of Houston Athletic Director Eddie Nunez has some advice for fans still trying to get tickets.
“At this point, they need to go to the secondary market. That is the only option at this time,” Nunez said. “Between the other three schools that are coming here, I know people are saying it costs a lot. Just think of it this way, you’re at home, you don’t have to pay for a hotel or travel, you get a chance to cheer on your Coogs here in Houston for a chance to go to the Final Four.”
