A confrontation at a northwest Houston motel turned deadly, leaving one man dead and another injured as police arrest a suspect and continue investigating.

HOUSTON — A man in his early 60s was fatally shot, and another man was injured Tuesday night during a confrontation at a northwest Houston motel, police said.

The shooting was reported around 10:45 p.m. at the Scottish Inn in the 3300 block of Antoine Drive, according to Houston police. Investigators said the incident began when a man sitting on the ground blocked the doorway to a rented room and refused repeated requests to move.

The tenant of the room, described as an elderly man, sought help from several long‑term residents who knew one another and attempted to get the suspect to leave. As many as six people gathered near the doorway during the encounter, police said.

At some point, the man stood up, appeared agitated, walked a short distance away and then pulled a pistol, turning back toward the group and firing several shots, authorities said.

One man was hit and died at the scene. His identity has been confirmed but is not being released publicly, police said. Investigators do not believe he knew the suspect.

A second victim, a man in his mid‑30s, was shot in the buttocks. He left the scene in a private vehicle and went to a hospital, where he is expected to recover.

Police said another individual in the group returned fire at the suspect before fleeing. Detectives are working to locate that person to determine whether he knew the gunman or what role he may have played in the confrontation.

While officers were processing the homicide scene, patrol units circulated a photo taken from surveillance footage that showed the suspect’s distinctive clothing. A pair of Northwest Patrol officers later spotted a man matching the description near Hammerly Boulevard and Hollister Street.

When officers approached, the man ran into an apartment complex. Police set up a perimeter, and K‑9 units located and arrested him without further incident, authorities said. The man was taken to police headquarters for questioning.

The firearm used in the shooting was a pistol, though detectives have not yet identified the caliber.

The investigation is ongoing.
