CIUDAD JUAREZ, MEXICO (KFOX14/CBS4) — Two parents have been formally charged in connection with the death of their young child, Eitan Daniel, whose body was discovered abandoned near the Kilómetro 27 area of Ciudad Juárez, authorities confirmed.

The Northern District Attorney’s Office announced that Vianey Esmeralda H. G. and Brayan Gabriel S. A. have been linked to criminal proceedings on charges of aggravated homicide in the killing of their minor son.

Prosecutors allege that Vianey Esmeralda H. G. also faces an additional charge related to the improper handling of human remains.

Authorities say she is suspected of abandoning the body of the one-and-a-half-year-old child in a brush-covered lot near the Kilómetro 27 neighborhood on March 10.

According to evidence presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Brayan Gabriel S. A. is accused of playing a role in the child’s death through omission.

An official autopsy determined the cause of death to be a subdural hematoma resulting from traumatic brain injury.

Both suspects were arrested on March 21 after authorities executed arrest warrants.

A judge has ordered that the defendants remain in pretrial detention as the case proceeds.
