Church service for Jobey Doil Jones Claborn, age 83, of Muleshoe, Texas, is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 26, 2026 at First Baptist Church in Muleshoe with Curtis Shelburne of Muleshoe and Dr. Stacy Conner of Muleshoe officiating. Jobey died Saturday, March 21, 2026 in Lubbock, Texas. He was born February 10, 1943 in Slaton, Texas to PFC Doil G. and Odie Jones. Jobey’s father was killed in action in April of 1945 on Luzon Island in the Phillipines. After the death of her husband, Odie and Jobey moved in with Eunie Verna and Lewis Edward West, affectionately known and “Mama and Daddy” for several years. His mother then married J.C. Claborn in 1947. Jobey married Janet Buckley in Friona, Texas on July 27, 1963
Jobey graduated from Friona High School in 1961, where he met Janet. They attended Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Dr. Claborn graduated from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1974, where he had been the very first student to register for that school in 1970. He served an internship at Phoenix General Hospital as Chief Intern. After completing his internship he practiced Emergency Medicine and eventually family practice. Jobey then completed a preceptorship in Dermatology. After serving as Chief of Staff and practicing medicine in Phoenix for 21 years, he relocated to Texas, where he practiced 3 years for Dallas Emergency Physicians, then practiced medicine in Muleshoe, until his retirement in 2015. Jobey held numerous offices and positions including, Chief of Staff of Phoenix General Hospital, National President of Student Osteopathic Medical Asso., Speaker of the House of the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Asso. and President of the Arizona American College of Family Practice. He loved fishing and hunting; playing golf; reading; working with his hunting dogs; but his most important position was being a devoted “Papa Doc” to his grandkids. He loved spending time with them, and they loved him right back. He is preceded in death by his mother and father; his step-father; his grandparents; and two brothers, Johnny Claborn and Jackie Claborn.
Dr. Claborn is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janet; his two sons, Jackie Claborn and his wife, Robie of Muleshoe, Texas and Jason Claborn and his wife, Lindsay of Shallowater, Texas; and his grandchildren, Emma Claborn, Cobi Claborn, Kylie Neal and her husband, Calvin and Ryker Claborn, and his great-granddaughter, Ronnie Ann Neal.
