Purlife Dispensary has about 20 locations across New Mexico but customers at the one they just opened in Sunland Park face a unique legal challenge.

Sunland Park New Mexico … thanks mostly to El Paso … sells the 2nd highest amount of marijuana in the entire state. El Pasoans take a risk bringing their purchases back across the line but a new dispensary has ALL the Purlife customers facing a risk.

Recreational marijuana is legal in New Mexico and Texans, mostly from El Paso, happily take advantage of the goodies just across the state line. With, of course, some risk.

No matter where they’re from though, folks leaving Purlife are … cue Chris Rea … going into Texas.

Can Texans Buy Marijuana In New Mexico?

Yes. Texans who buy pot in New Mexico and bring it back home face legal penalties if they get caught with their mota in Texas. Anyone would but New Mexicans are fine if they just buy their pot and stay in their state.

What Risk Do New Mexico Residents Face At Purlife?

Anybody caught with marijuana in Texas gets busted, plain and simple. The problem with Purlife is their location. All the Sunland Park dispensaries are super close to Texas but the way the state line curves around, everybody …. EVERYBODY … enters Texas from Purlife.

The New Mexico state line near Sunland Park runs south of Country Club Road before turning north about half a mile west. Purlife is located on the south side of Country Club Road, within New Mexico. However, customers must drive half a mile west through Texas to return to New Mexico after making a purchase. – KOAT 

People travel in and out of Texas with and/or to buy pot all the time and they are aware of the risk. Purlife customers may have no intention of entering Texas but they have to. They’re sitting ducks unless someone builds a bridge or something.

Who’s Watching The Border?

Fortunately, (so far anyway), local law enforcement haven’t seemed to interested in watching who comes and goes. Purlife’s geographical location, however, pretty much guarantees them a bust.

Busts = money in terms of fines, fees, court costs, etc so; heads up folks. You could get popped for doing something that is totally legal.
