EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – An El Paso County mom was arrested Tuesday after what the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) called an “overdose incident” involving a four-year-old.
According to EPSO, dispatchers received a call at around 10:15 a.m. to a home in the 15400 block of Jessie Drive, in the Gleneagle area of unincorporated El Paso County, for an unresponsive child.
EPSO deputies and medical responders with the Tri-Lakes Monument Fire Protection District responded to the home. Officials said the mother of the child told first responders to give Narcan to the four-year-old, who was unresponsive and not breathing.
According to EPSO, multiple doses of the overdose-reversal drug were administered to the child, who then resumed breathing. Officials said the child was stabilized on scene and then taken to the hospital.
After that, deputies said the mother, Meghan Anderson, became “uncooperative” with law enforcement, and detectives responded and obtained a search warrant for the home. During their search, officials said they found drugs and “multiple items of drug-related paraphernalia.”
Anderson was taken into custody on charges of child abuse, second-degree assault, attempted child abuse and reckless endangerment. As of Wednesday afternoon, she was still in custody in the El Paso County jail on $100,000 bond.
According to EPSO, the Department of Human Services responded to the hospital and assumed custody of the four-year-old.
