As the partial government shutdown, enters its 40th day, the Houston Police Officers’ Union is reaching out to TSA workers highlighting consistent pay and career opportunities within the Houston Police Department.

Over 450 TSA workers have quit or resigned since the last government shutdown began, according to the Associated Press.

In a statement addressed directly to TSA workers, HPOU President Douglas Griffith said:

“Keeping our airports safe is important work. If you’re looking for better job security, better pay, and the opportunity to make a real impact in a community that appreciates you, HPD is hiring. The Houston Police Officers’ Union would gladly accept members of the TSA who want to have a better career. Tired of long hours with intermittent pay, come to the Houston Police Department where you are respected for your hard work and paid regularly.”

For the Frontline TSA agents, the struggle is more challenging, as congress remains deadlocked over the funding for the Department of Homeland Security.

“This isn’t about politics, it’s about stability, fair compensation, and keeping Americans safe.” Congressman Wesley Hunt said.

The only hope for travelers dealing with TSA lines as long as 3 to 4 hours- is the deployment of ICE officers, as they assist TSA managing the exits allowing TSA agents to move the line along more efficiently. In the meantime, the HPD officers’ union is hoping to recruit any TSA personnel looking for an opportunity with more long-term stability.
