Alamo Heights Independent School District has been locked out of accessing its internet since the start of the week. The district is working to restore its computer network after a disruption to its Wi-Fi and Gmail systems began Monday.
The district notified the community of the technical difficulties at 4:30 p.m. Monday on social media. As of Wednesday morning, the district was still without internet access.
Third-party forensic specialists are working with the district’s IT team to investigate the issue and restore the systems as quickly as possible, according to spokesperson Julie Ann Matonis.
The district anticipates IT restoration will take place over the next several days.
Affected spaces include school buildings and offices across the district, according to an alert on the AHISD website. In the online alert, the district requested visitors wait until after the systems are restored to stop by the campuses.
District phone lines are fully operational during this time.
It is unclear if a phishing or hacking attempt caused the disruption. The district said it had no more information to share while the IT team investigates.
There has been a greater focus on improving K-12 cybersecurity on both a national and statewide level in the past few years as more schools turned to online learning methods following the COVID-19 pandemic.
