TCU basketball reserve guard RJ Jones intends to enter the transfer portal, the Star-Telegram confirmed on Tuesday.

The Athletic was the first to report Jones’ intention to enter the portal. A source says Jones is not officially in the portal yet, but confirmed he’s expected to enter in the coming days.

Jones spent the last two seasons with TCU after starting his career with Kansas State. He missed all of 2024-25 season with an injury and appeared in nine games this season.

Jones averaged 2.6 points in 6.1 minutes per game. His best moment as a Horned Frog came when he came off the bench and scored 14 points to help TCU avoid an upset to Florida A&M on Dec. 21.

Jones arrived in Fort Worth with relatively high expectations after a promising freshman season at Kansas State. He appeared in 28 games for the Wildcats after being a four-star recruit out of high school.

With Jones’ anticipated departure, the Horned Frogs are now set to lose Jones, senior guard Jayden Pierre and senior center Vianney Salatchoum.

The Horned Frogs are bringing in top-ranked junior-college guard Trent Lincoln next season and are anticipated to pursue a veteran guard in the transfer portal.

TCU finished the season 23-12 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Horned Frogs fell to Duke 81-58 on March 21.
