Austin ISD police found the weapon on campus Tuesday morning, Anderson High School Principal Brian Lancaster said in a letter to families.

AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin ISD student brought a loaded gun to Anderson High School on Tuesday, according to the school’s principal. 

In a letter sent to families on Tuesday, Anderson High School Principal Brian Lancaster said the school received a report about a possible weapon on campus during the morning hours. 

School officials contacted AISD police, and the campus was placed on a temporary hold during an investigation. 

Lancaster said law enforcement found a student with a loaded gun, but their identity has not been made public. He said there has been no specific threat made at this time and any disciplinary actions taken will remain private. 

AISD police are collaborating alongside Anderson High School’s threat assessment team to address the incident with the aforementioned student and their family members. 

“The safety of our campus is a shared responsibility,” Lancaster stated in the letter. “This situation was resolved quickly because of the strong culture of trust we have built at Anderson.”
