Earlier this month, Nielsen announced she was leaving CBS Texas (KTVT) in Dallas-Fort Worth, where she wore just about every hat in the newsroom: reporter, multi-skilled journalist, fill-in anchor and traffic anchor. She has since joined KPRC 2 as a multimedia journalist, marking her next move in a career that’s already taken her across local and national broadcasts.

“As if I wasn’t far enough South, you’ll now find me on @KPRC in Houston,” Nielsen posted on Instagram on March 19.

Her arrival comes as KPRC 2 continues a wave of recent hires.

“Over the past few weeks, we’ve brought in strong contributors across news management, executive producing, directing, photography, and multimedia journalism,” the station wrote on social media. “Great people who know how to lead, make smart decisions, and raise the bar every day. Excited to have them here and see what we build next.”

Nielsen joined CBS Texas in June 2020 and announced her departure on March 3. During her time there, she reported not only in North Texas but also on a national level, contributing to CBS Mornings, CBS Overnight News and CBS-owned stations across the country.

A Keller native, Nielsen graduated summa cum laude from the University of Oklahoma, where she served as a journalism school ambassador and worked on the university’s daily newscast.

While in college, she earned awards for her on-air presence and reporting from the Broadcast Education Association and the National Broadcasting Society, building a foundation that would carry her from internships at CBS Texas, WFAA 8, CheddarU and News 9 KWTV in Oklahoma City to a full-time role in the DFW market.
