The Arlington Police Department is investigating an overnight crash that resulted in the death of a 6-year-old girl.
On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at approximately 12:29 a.m., officers were dispatched to the westbound lanes of I-20 near the US 287 interchange in response to a crash involving a 2014 Nissan Sentra and a dump truck.
Investigators believe the driver of the Sentra became distracted by something occurring in the back seat of the car, causing them to take their eyes off the road. The Sentra then collided with the rear end of the dump truck.
The driver of the Sentra and two children in the backseat were transported to area hospitals. One of the children, the 6-year-old girl, was later pronounced deceased from her injuries.
Although the child was in a car seat at the time, investigators believe she may not have been wearing her seatbelt properly or had unbuckled it.
The driver and the other child suffered non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the deceased.
