It is game day for Texas Longhorns basketball. No. 11 seed UT faces off against the No. 2 seed Purdue Boilermakers in the Sweet 16 in San Jose. The Longhorns have been on an amazing journey under first-year coach Sean Miller, who marshals a team now just two wins from the Final Four.

UT’s season was a roller coaster to be sure. A slow start followed by a mid-season hot streak turned sour with a losing streak to end the season. By losing five of their last six games, the Longhorns went from a shoe-in to the NCAA Tournament to a bubble team that barely got in the First Four play-in game.

But since March Madness has started, Texas has certainly looked like it belongs in the field. UT edged NC State in the First Four, handled BYU in the first round and stunned Gonzaga in the second round. Texas is the only First Four team to make it out of the first round.

It would be a truly historic upset if the Longhorns could take down second-seeded Purdue tonight. Either way, we can now say Sean Miller’s first year in Austin is a success.

Purdue Boiler Makers Injury ReportC.J. Cox – Guard

Purdue sophomore C.J. Cox suffered an apparent knee injury early in the second half of Purdue’s win over Miami in the second round. He did not return to the game.  Coach Matt Painter told reporters after the game that Cox had “hyperextended” his knee and would see how it responded to treatment this week.

Cox called it “nothing serious” and said he could have re-entered the game if needed. He has started every game for the Boilermakers this season, while averaging 8.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists.

Texas Longhorns Injury ReportJordan Pope – Guard

Texas senior guard Jordan Pope was limping pretty significantly late in Texas’ win over Gonzaga in the second round. The senior guard walked to the locker room under his own power, but several staff members were by his side.

“He’s dealing with a lower leg situation,” Texas coach Sean Miller said Wednesday. “We’re hopeful that he can (play). We’ve given him a lot of rest since our last game, and I think he’s really responding to it. We still had a pretty quick turnaround, all things considered, because of the distance between San Jose and Austin and traveling from Dayton to Portland and Portland back to Austin.”

Pope says he’s 100% going to play against the Boilermakers. “I’ll be fine,” Pope said after the game.
