The airline has stripped federal lawmakers of elite and speciality services, which include airport escorts and red coat services, according to a company statement to the Chronicle. Delta officials said they implemented the change Sunday before security lines climbed above 4 hours in Houston, causing travelers to miss their flights while TSA agents call out of work without pay during the Department of Homeland Security’s shutdown.

“Next to safety, Delta’s no. 1 priority is taking care of our people and customers, which has become increasingly difficult in the current environment,” Delta’s statement reads.

Company officials said they will treat members of Congress like any other passenger based on their SkyMiles status. They said a reservations line called the Capital Desk is still open.
