A train fatally struck Benjamin Martin, 40, on Houston County tracks. An investigation is ongoing.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — A man died after being hit by a train in Houston County Saturday afternoon, according to the coroner.

Houston County Coroner James Williams said that Benjamin Martin, 40, was on the railroad tracks near the crossing at Flournoy Road in Elko around 3 p.m.

Williams said that “it is unknown why Martin was on the tracks.”

Martin was pronounced dead at the scene, Williams said.

According to Williams, the GBI Crime Lab will do an autopsy and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
