EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Independent School District’s College, Career & Technology Academy (CCTA) is being “reassigned” for the 2026-2027 school year.

In the district’s Board of Trustees board meeting on Tuesday, March 24, members unanimously voted 7 to 0 to motion for the school’s “reassignment.”

CCTA is a program designed for under-credited students, allowing them to graduate with essential college and career skills. The campus is located at 2851 Grant Ave. in Central El Paso.

“One thing we’ve recognized is that having a centralized program sometimes makes it more difficult rather than easier for our students to have access to the best possible options,” EPISD Superintendent Brian Lusk said.

Lusk emphasized that the recommendation plan to reassign CCTA will provide more regional support and services for students to better meet their needs.

“The redesign is an opportunity to bring the services closer to their [the students’] home and relocate the opportunity for that recovery within four of our eight [campuses],” Paz said. Here are the four host schools and who they would serve:

Burges High School

Serve Burges and Jefferson high school students

Chapin High School

Serve Chapin, Andress and Irvin high school students

Franklin High School

Serve Franklin and Coronado high school students

El Paso High School

Serve El Paso, Austin and Bowie high school students

These schools will now serve CCTA students, as they will be closer to home. The receiving campuses can offer “At-Risk” students additional options to stay on track with their cohort, according to the presentation.

During a presentation by Mark Paz, EPISD’s assistant superintendent of secondary schools, the district gave a campus transition timeline for CCTA. Faculty have been notified of the reassignment since March 25, and after the end-of-year ceremonies, the campus will be closed from June 8 to July 31.

Paz reassured board members Tuesday that the Houston Head Start program at the same facility as CCTA would continue to hold classes.

He also confirmed with board members that the CCTA transition to these new schools will be effective Aug. 26, 2026 for the new school year.

It was noted during the presentation that the host school with the most CCTA students would be Chapin, with 35. Paz says that the total anticipated number of transfers would be less than 25 overall.
