Tony Simpson was born on 30 June 1942, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, to parents, Jesse Laird Simpson and Dorothie Humphries Simpson. He passed away unexpectedly, at his home in Fort Worth on 15 March 2026, at age 83. Tony was a very good athlete and excelled at both football and baseball. He played on the Carlsbad state champion football team in 1958 as a sophomore quarterback. He earned a football scholarship to Abilene Christian College and later to Hardin-Simmons University, also in Abilene, Texas. With his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, he took a coaching job in Houston and later earned a Master’s degree in History at the University of Houston. He spent most of his adult life teaching and coaching in the Houston area where he met his wife, Sharon Morse. After Sharon died of cancer, Tony moved to Fort Worth to be closer to his family. Although he had no children of his own, he was deeply involved with older brother, Mike Simpson’s children and grandchildren and later on great-grandchildren.
