A man was found dead after crashing into a barrier in northeast Houston, and investigators say the vehicle had multiple bullet holes — raising new questions about what led up to the incident.

Houston police are now working to determine whether the shooting happened at the crash scene or somewhere else.

Officers were called around 9:30 p.m. Thursday to the 12400 block of Woodforest Boulevard after Houston Fire Department requested assistance.

When officers arrived, they found a vehicle that had crashed into a barrier.

During the investigation, officers discovered several bullet holes in the vehicle. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police described the victim as a young adult male. His identity has not yet been confirmed.

What investigators are trying to determine

Houston police said it’s unclear where the shooting actually happened.

Officers recovered one spent shell casing near the vehicle, but investigators say it’s unknown whether it is connected to this incident or from a previous case in the area.

Because there were multiple bullet holes in the car but only one casing found nearby, investigators believe the shooting may have occurred somewhere else before the crash.

Police said they are checking with other agencies to see if any shootings were reported nearby around the same time.

No suspect or motive identified

As of now, investigators have not identified a suspect or a possible motive.

Police are also working to determine whether any surveillance cameras in the area may have captured what happened, though officials said it’s unclear if video exists.

Homicide detectives have responded to the scene and are continuing to investigate.
