HUNT, Texas – Camp Mystic is fighting a court order that has shut down its Guadalupe campus, where 27 campers and counselors were killed in the July 4 flood.

Under the order, the camp cannot reopen, no construction is allowed, and, according to KHOU, the owners are not permitted to live on the property. Camp Mystic has filed an appeal challenging the order. The camp is prohibited from making any alterations or building at the Guadalupe River site to avoid destroying evidence that may be critical in ongoing investigations and litigation.
The reason for the appeal is unclear. The order followed a lawsuit from the parents of Cile Steward, the only camper who remains missing.
Camp Mystic plans to reopen only its separate location, Camp Mystic Cypress Lake, which was not affected by the flood.
