FREDERICKSBURG, Texas – A major multi-agency operation across Texas Hill Country has resulted in several arrests, and lots of seized methamphetamine.
A multi-agency narcotics investigation that began in August 2025 led to the seizure of large amounts of methamphetamine believed to be distributed across Gillespie County and surrounding areas, according to the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said its Narcotics Division began gathering intelligence during the month of August 2025 about “large quantities of methamphetamine being distributed in Gillespie, Kerr, and other surrounding counties.” As the investigation continued, investigators identified a suspect who lived in the San Antonio area.
The Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office said it contacted the Texas Department of Public Safety, which “immediately began assisting in the investigation.” The sheriff’s office said the agencies used coordinated surveillance, intelligence gathering and undercover purchases to identify “key participants, locations, and criminal activity patterns.”
During the operation, which the sheriff’s office said was dubbed “The Hills Have Ice,” law enforcement seized about 44 ounces of methamphetamine. The sheriff’s office said 13 ounces, or 0.8 pounds, were seized in Gillespie County.
The sheriff’s office said the operation ended when Gillespie County investigators, DPS special agents and a San Antonio Police Department detective conducted a search at what it described as the primary methamphetamine source’s residence. The sheriff’s office said additional contraband was seized, including about 7.75 pounds, or 124 ounces, of methamphetamine, and that two suspects were taken into custody.
“This operation could not have happened without the continued assistance of neighboring law enforcement agencies,” the sheriff’s office said, specifically thanking “the Special Agents with DPS CID Region 6A2.”
“I could not be more proud of the hard work the GCSO Narcotics Division and their team work with local and state agencies,” the sheriff’s office said. “Working together builds a safer Gillespie County Community and for our neighboring county communities.”
