CCPD says a bicyclist was taken to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle Friday.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A bicyclist was injured after being struck by a vehicle leaving a parking lot on the Southside on Friday, according to the Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD).
CCPD, Lieutenant William Broyles, says the crash happened in the Staples Street area in front of the Dunkin’ Donuts and Walmart when the driver did not see the bicyclist on the sidewalk while exiting the lot.
Police said the bicyclist, a man, was injured and taken to a local hospital. The extent of his injuries is unknown.
Police say the driver was not injured, and no citations have been issued as the investigation continues.
However, Lt. Broyles says the bicyclist was allowed to be on the sidewalk at the time of the crash.
“Drivers need to be extra aware in this area of Staples and watch for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other vehicles,” Lt. Broyles said. “We are still gathering video to help determine exactly what happened.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
