WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Midwestern State University hosted a STEM conference on Friday, bringing together college students and high school sophomores.
The event took place at Bolin Science Hall and McCoy Engineering Hall, where students gained hands-on exposure to a variety of fields, including medicine, engineering, environmental science and data science, along with demonstrations and a job and career expo.
University leaders said the goal is to connect students with real opportunities right here in Wichita Falls and across the region and to inspire the next generation of scientists by showing them the pathways available through MSU Texas and its partnerships with local and regional companies.
Event Co-chair, Taylor Majewkys, said some of the students she talked to were dead-set on their education and career paths, but after seeing what STEM has to offer, were considering a possible change.
“Getting to see all these different areas of expertise, getting to talk to all of these students and industry leaders to be able to kind of decide, do they want to have a STEM career or is this something for them, or is it something cool that they’re finding out just now,” said Majewkys.
The students had two floors and more than 30 booths to peruse. Organizers said this is the first of many STEM conferences to come.
