Brace for Fall chill starting Tuesday

  • October 27, 2025

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Fall weather is on the way. A cold front early Tuesday will bring a drop in temperatures, blustery winds, and potentially the first freeze of the season for parts of the South Plains.

After days of gray skies, Sunday brought clear and warm conditions that will continue into Monday.

The upper-level storm system that brought rain over the weekend is finally moving east, leaving behind mostly dry weather… for now.

Sunday night will stay mostly cloudy with low clouds and fog developing overnight as light easterly winds pull moisture back into the region.

Visibility could drop early Monday morning, especially off the Caprock and into the Rolling Plains.

By Monday afternoon, skies will split again across the region. Westerly winds on the Caprock will warm things into the 80s, while easterly winds farther east keep places like Paducah cooler and cloudier and in the 70s.

Then the big change comes on Tuesday. A strong cold front will surge south, likely passing through the area before sunrise. Behind it, expect gusty north winds up to 25-30 mph and a sharp temperature drop. Tuesday will feel dramatically cooler than Monday, with highs in the mid to low 60s.

Tuesday night into Wednesday, a ridge of high-pressure settles in which will keep overnight skies clear and send morning temperatures near freezing for parts of the region.

The rest of the week will stay dry and cool, with gradual warming and lighter winds returning by late week as winds shift back to the southwest.
