HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team fell in its fourth Big 12 weekend series opener, 16-1, against UCF at Cougar Softball Stadium on Friday.
 
The Cougars (17-19, 1-9 Big 12) were limited to three hits on the night as the Knights (26-10, 4-6 Big 12) produced multi-run innings in each of the first four frames.

Sophomore Ariel Redmond broke up UCF’s no-hit bid in the bottom of the fourth inning, tallying her 36th hit of the season with a single to shallow right field.
Junior Makenna Mitchell supplied her 37th hit of the season to provide Houston’s lone run of the night, cracking a single down the right field line to score freshman Leilani Garcia from second in the bottom of the fifth.
Sophomore Maddie Hartley made her fifth appearance of the season in the circle, tossing a season-high 2.0 innings in relief.
Garcia now has hits in back-to-back games after tallying a base hit to center.

Houston returns tomorrow for game two against UCF with first pitch set for 3 p.m., Saturday. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
