After Missouri scored eight runs through two innings to close the gap, Texas A&M baseball held on to claim an 11-9 win in the series opener at Taylor Stadium in Columbia on Friday night.

Nico Partida’s two-out RBI single got the Aggies on the board in the first inning, but Missouri answered in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice-fly to tie the game at one run apiece. Freshman outfielder Jorian Wilson continued his successful first collegiate campaign with his third homer of the season in the third inning to give Texas A&M a 2-1 lead in the top half of the fourth.

The Aggies were not done, however. Caden Sorrell mashed a three-run homer to put the Maroon and White up four runs. Later in the inning, Chris Hacopian scored on a wild pitch and Wilson notched a two-out, two-RBI double in his return to the plate in the frame.

Missouri had much success against the Aggie bullpen in the final stretch of the contest, as the Tigers trailed by just one run in the bottom of the seventh. In the end, Texas A&M prevailed and is in position to secure an SEC series win on Saturday.

To do so, the Aggies need more consistent performances from the pitching rotation, especially starters. Right-hander Weston Moss is expected to start for Michael Earley’s club in Game 2. He enters the weekend with a 6.35 ERA and 29 strikeouts so far this season.
