HUNTSVILLE, Texas – WKU Baseball (14-13; 3-5 CUSA) fell to Sam Houston (14-12; 4-4 CUSA) 11-5 on Saturday afternoon at Don Sanders Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bearkats struck first on Saturday, scoring a run on a base-hit to right field in the bottom half of the first.
Sam Houston plated seven runs on four hits in the second and third innings to take an eight run lead.
Sam Houston added a run in the fourth.
In the fifth inning the eight and nine hitters for WKU recorded back-to-back base knocks in the middle infield duo of Austin Haller and Manny Alberto.
The Bearkats scratched two more runs in the fifth.
Cael Frost got on base with a leadoff walk in the seventh and a triple from Haller, his third hit of the game, scored Frost. Alberto followed with a base-hit up the middle to score Haller.
Arroyos logged his first hit of the series with a base-hit into the gap in right center field to score Alberto from second.
Haller reached base for the fourth time Saturday with a walk in the ninth. Logan Luckett pinch hit for Alberto and grounded a base-hit through the right side.
Arroyos, with two outs in the ninth, lined a ball into the alley in the left center to score Haller and Luckett to make it an 11-5 game which would ultimately be the final.
NOTABLES
With the loss WKU falls to 14-13 (3-5 CUSA) on the year.
Nathan Lawson got his first start as a Hilltopper on Saturday afternoon. He finished with five earned runs on five hits with one strikeout in 2.0 innings pitched.
Out of the bullpen, the Hilltoppers used Jacob O’Day, Kaine Samuels, and Conner Wolf.
Wolf tossed a team high 3.1 innings, allowing no runs on three hits.
Austin Haller finished 3-for-3 along with two runs and an RBI.
Haller’s three hits match a season best. One of his three hits was a triple, marking the second of the season for the senior.
Haller has now scored two runs in a game on three occasions this season.
Lane Arroyos finished 2-for-5 with a team best three RBIs.
Manny Alberto finished 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI.
Saturday was Alberto’s second two hit day of his Hilltopper career.
