A highway in Central Texas has been shut down after a reported crash in the area that is causing drivers to seek alternate routes early Sunday morning, March 29.

The Austin Police Department released information on social media at a bout 7:10 a.m. Sunday to alert driver’s on traffic conditions following the crash. “The southbound lanes of Research Bvld are currently closed between Great Hills Trail and Mopac due to a fatality collision. Expect significant delays in the area,” they said on social media.

The Texas Department of Transportation in Austin added where traffic is diverting from in the area should drivers end up near the crash if they were unable to avoid it. “Southbound US 183 before Loop 1/Mopac, all lanes closed due to a crash. Traffic is diverting to the frontage road at the Loop 360/Capital of Texas Highway exit,” they said. There was no immediate information as to what led to the crash, how many people were involved in the crash, or how many have died as a result of the crash at time of publication.
